Halloween

As we do every October we have transformed The Garment District into a one stop place to shop for your Halloween Costume. We just added new costumes, a huge assortment of accessories, sunglasses, wigs, and everything we can think of to let you have the coolest costume. In addition we expand our used costume rack into an entire room so you can mix and match a unique costume nobody else could possibly have.

This year we've added even more square feet to our already huge store. We will have more registers than ever to keep any checkout lines moving quickly. And we will be open until Midnight from October 9th through October 31st to give people time to shop on whatever schedule works for them.

Why shop at The Garment District for Halloween? First off we are the biggest store in the area. Teamed up with Boston Costume and Dollar-A-Pound+ we have both high end rentals and the cheapest costume choices you will find in town. You can buy a packaged costume or you can buy a real vintage outfit. We have a very wide election of accessories to make whatever idea you have work. And since Boston Costume is a year-round costume shop we have year round staff who know how to make a costume work. Just come in and ask!

A quick reminder: Come early for the best selection!

Hope to see you sometime in October.

New Boston Costume Site

I would like to announce the launch of our new Boston Costume website at www.BostonCostume.com. Though you have been able to browse our rentals on BostonCostume.com for many years now, as of Wednesday, July 29th, we have a new retail shopping cart to purchase items online! Need a wig or mask for your next party? We can ship your order anywhere in the USA. Don't see what you are looking for? Our website only shows a sampling of the wide range of costumes available in our 200 Broadway retail location. Call us toll free at 1-888-482-1632 if you have questions or need something you don't see online.

Clothing Purchasing

The Garment District has begun purchasing clothing from the public on a walk in basis. For the moment we've limited the hours to Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 7:30 but look for more hours in the future. We've bought clothing from the public by appointment for many years now but feel that it's better for our customers to have an option that doesn't require scheduling in advance. So far this has worked quite well. There have been a few times when there is a wait to be served but we are working hard to train more people so we can handle the rushes effectively. So if you've got good quality clothing to sell - drop by! It's always fun to have a little extra cash in your pocket.

We are now on twitter as GarmentDistrict. We will be sending out updates about the store - weekly & perhaps daily. Follow if you want to keep updated about what's going on in the store.

    Just a reminder:

    The Garment District’s semi-annual 50% off sale is from February 13th-15th 2009.

Why is this a great time to shop?

Well 50% off is a good place to start. The reality is, though, I’ve always thought that this is better than most sales you see out there. We don’t pick & choose – or discount only some items. It’s everything. From new clothing & accessories to vintage and designer – everything in The Garment District is on sale.

Why do we do this? In simple terms it’s for season change. And at The Garment District we take that transition seriously. We take EVERYTHING out of the store on Sunday night and replace the entire contents of the store with fresh stock. To help us out in this process we want to sell off as much as we can. The less we have to remove – the less work we have on Sunday night. That is why the deal is so good. So come on in and help us out!

This process also makes Monday February 16th (Presidents day) and afterward a great time to shop. This is when the store is filled entirely with fresh clothing & accessories. It might not yet be completely organized – but nobody else has shopped the racks. And though the prices aren’t as cheap as they are at the sale – the quality is as high as it will be all year. We save up spring merchandise all year for this transition so you are getting the best of the best.

Hope you have a chance to stop by & shop.

    Halloween '08:

Well it’s definitely that time of year again. We’ve radically transformed the store to meet everyone’s Halloween needs. We’ve added 15 registers and an incredible amount of staff. As we do every year we’ve added retail space (how we keep finding space to expand I don’t know).

I was at an iparty the other night. Or rather I was outside one. It was closed. Not sure what their late hours were but it wasn’t that late. Wish I could have seen inside. However, from what I could see from the window there were a couple of things that make The Garment District & Boston Costume stand out as a Halloween destination.

#1) Open until Midnight every night. The fact that I could get in to the iparty store made me wonder why that could be possible.

#2) We are at least 5 times bigger than any party store I’ve seen. There must be somewhere bigger somewhere that dedicates itself to Halloween. I haven’t seen it, however.

#3) The Garment District sells costumes like they are clothing. We hang the majority of the costumes up and have 21 dressing rooms available to try things on. We have everything from packaged costumes, to a huge selection of accessories, to actual period clothing. This means you can make your costume as unique as you want it to.

#4) Quality & depth. Boston Costume is a year-round costume store so we have a variety that other party stores just don’t have. And we do it all. From cheap used clothing to work up your own idea to packaged costumes easy to just grab & wear. We also have high-end rentals, superheroes, professional makeup & wigs. The list is way too long to list.

#5) Near downtown & the Kendall redline T stop. Most other party stores are outside the city. There are no other party stores this close to the center of Boston. We are convenient to where people work & go to school.

Remember – shop early! Halloween can get very busy. Early in the day & late-late night are the best times to shop.
