Just before spring begins is always a busy and exciting time for us at The Garment District.
Each year in February several of us go to Las Vegas for the MAGIC clothing show. This show is huge and thousands of designers and manufacturers are there with the latest fashions. We especially look for new clothing lines that complement retro fashions. MAGIC is huge, and only about 5% of the clothing and accessories is right for The Garment District, but 5% of a mega trade show is a lot and there always seems to be something we can't resist. At the same time, in a nearby convention center, there is a very large off-price show, which has lots of lower cost staples like t-shirts and socks, as well as some great finds like closeouts and discontinued styles from brand names you would recognize. We place a lot of orders at the show, and bring back new vendor contacts and catalogues to order from through out the year. By the time spring arrives, so does our new clothing and accessories from this yearly buying trip. And we get to go to Vegas – this year I'll try to post some pictures from the show.
Soon we will have our semi-annual 50% off sale. We notify people by e-mail and/or a postcard mailing. If you want to know the date, just put yourself on our mailing list or keep checking back at www.garmentdistrict.com.
After the big sale, it’s time for restock, where we clean the store thoroughly and bring in all new clothing and accessories. Spring cleaning is very cathartic!
Coming soon:
(1) We recently purchased a very large deadstock lot from the 1960s. Many of these pieces will come out during our spring restock. This lot is very exciting -- it is the largest batch of deadstock ‘60s clothing that I can remember, and it’s great looking stuff in terrific, unworn condition, some with tags still attached. Any vintage enthusiast should make the trip when this lot gets into the store.
(2) Our 20th birthday bash in March!
(3) Our first and perhaps only warehouse sale!
The Garment District promises to be a lot of fun this spring. Keep checking back here for more details.
It's great to be able to think about clothing again! (for more on that see the blog archive)
Thanks for checking in with us, and I hope that I’ll see you shopping soon!
